All my work is about people – for me they are the only subject. Some images relate to people I know and some to my experience of society (either directly or through the arts and media). I am continually perplexed by people, both individually and collectively. The paintings are, I suppose, an attempt to give some coherence to experiences that concern, intrigue or amuse me. The images are purely intuitive – ideas may be ‘screened’ to avoid clichés or sentimentality but generally I don’t analyse too much. They reveal something of myself to myself (often things that I would prefer to have kept hidden). They are, despite the apparent clarity, not intended to be taken literally – they are visual metaphors. My experience of life is, in common with almost everyone, unremarkable. In general we share the same concerns and I have to trust that my paintings are an honest reflection of the society in which we all live.

Life Drawing and Painting Classes
Neil Moore’s uncompromising figurative paintings, combining impeccable technique and thoughtful content, have been exhibited widely in Europe and the U.S.A. Almost uniquely among contemporary realist painters (but in a long tradition stretching back through Courbet to Caravaggio) he employs a classical realist technique to explore the ordinary mysteries of contemporary life.
He is an experienced and knowledgeable teacher of drawing, painting & associated professional and vocational skills. In addition to holding weekly life drawing classes he teaches monthly day workshops, together with an annual life drawing and painting summer school.
