These paintings combine close observation with imagination. I am drawn to a range of subjects but much recent work has focussed on the agricultural landscapes Warwickshire and the hills and moors of Derbyshire. I frequently produce a series of pictures in order to explore a particular theme through a variety of techniques and compositions. As with these pictures, the focus is on formal elements such as perspective and on tonal variations. A subtle change of viewpoint or arrangement of shapes can significantly affect the mood of a work and this is explored in the paths cut through these fields as well as the construction of the clouds.

I am a horticulturalist inspired artistically to work with nature, to draw attention to natures mysterious energy, power to inspire, intricacy and effortless charisma. I paint on tree bark and other natural materials. All barkart is made from various leaves, barks and other natural materiall, painted with gouache, water colours and oils.
