Statement
My work concerns itself with views of
nature, attempting to uncover an essence which is available not only
to the eye but to the heart. The attempt is to offer an intimacy
with nature of the contemplative kind, allowing a reflective mood so
that there is a fusion of colour and form. The landscape is then
seen with an ambivalence driven by both configuration and
representation allowing a dreaming landscape to emerge.
Repeated observations of the landscape recorded in sketches, pastel
and photographs are then worked up in the studio, through building
up of layers which gradually allows form to emerge from chaos and
colour, each painting becoming a distillation of many encounters.
