I have always been fascinated by animals, admire their strength, grace & agility - trying to capture their character in my work, horses being a particular favourite subject.
Whatever the animal I try to keep it simple, show their essence, hopefully avoiding sentimentality.
While at college in Bristol I used to visit the zoo to sketch the animals, especially loved the gorillas which led to a life-size concrete sculpture of a 'Silverback' male for my degree.
I continue to study a whole range of animals through books, videos, TV documentaries & observation from life.
Artistic influences include Degas, Frink, prehistoric and primative art.
